Bath Panels
Bath panels are the external casings that are placed around the side(s) of certain types of baths. In most cases these kinds of panels will be used around baths that are not designed to be free-standing. They are used predominantly to hide the plumbing around the bath tub itself and to make the bath and the bathroom look neater.

Bear in mind that most baths that are not free-standing will not be particularly ‘finished’ to the highest of standards underneath as they simply don’t need to be. So, the underside of the bath may need to be hidden by bath panels as it may not look as good as the top area of the bath. .
In most cases bath panels will simply run along the side of a bath, especially if it is fitted up against walls. It is possible, however, to buy end bath panels as well as side panels. You can even buy them for some free-standing models if you wish although this may not be necessary. Most free-standing baths are designed to look at their best without panels.
Most people simply have their bath panels fitted when their bath goes in but there is no reason why you can’t change your panels if you wish. A simple change of colour, coat of paint or change of material here can help you spruce up your bathroom and give it a new look very quickly and cheaply.
Nowadays bath panels come in all shapes, sizes, colours and materials. You can, for example, buy panels made from wood, glass, plastics, wood veneers and acrylics. If you are fairly handy there is no reason why you shouldn’t make and fit your own panel if you wish although it is also easy to buy panels from bathroom companies and DIY type stores.
The material and finish that is used to make bath panels generally dictates their cost. Panels that are made from solid wood, for example, may cost the most here. Materials such as wood veneers and acrylic will usually work out cheaper. Being able to buy a standard size may also make a difference. If you need to have your panels custom made then that could add to their cost.
You may find it a little harder to source bath panels if you have an oddly shaped or sized bath. You may still be able to use a bathroom company in some cases here as many will put together a custom built solution for you. Or, if you prefer you can do it yourself or hire a local handyman who could put one together for you.
